The champion: Frédéric Covili, a native of Les Menuires and budding new French skiing champion at the Junior World Championships in 1994 where he won two medals for slalom and combined. He has achieved podium success in giant slalom eight times, including two victories, as well as the Small Crystal Globe in this discipline in 2002 (he is now the third Frenchman to win the giant slalom World Cup event, after Jean-Claude Killy in 1967 and 1968 and Patrick Russel in 1971).
